Kaif also revealed why he thinks India will be favorites to win the 2027 World Cup.
Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif anticipates that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will continue to be a part of India's preparations for the 2027 ICC World Cup since he thinks they still have a lot to give in ODI cricket.
Kaif downplayed worries about the future of the seasoned pair as discussions over India's shift to a younger generation continue, stating that he is confident that both players would continue to play important roles for the national team in the years to come.
Kaif emphasized Rohit's tenacity and dedication, highlighting the Indian captain's attempts to keep up his level of fitness. Despite the physical difficulties brought on by aging and injuries, he believes Rohit's love for the game is still strong enough to keep him competing at the top level.
“I will take the guarantee of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Rohit is working on his fitness; he will push himself and somehow manage to play. Injury happens to everyone, even to youngsters. He has that passion; the temperament is seen in his batting. His batting as a captain and as a player is very different. The approach has changed. He is not pouncing on every ball," Kaif was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, Kaif stated that several senior players will remain central to India’s plans for the World Cup, including Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Kuldeep Yadav. Additionally, he believes that up-and-coming players like Shubman Gill would enhance the seasoned campaigners, resulting in a well-rounded and strong team.
“I feel that the playing 11 for the 2027 World Cup will be almost the same team that played in 2023. The majority of the players will be the same. You will have Bumrah, Kohli, Iyer, Rahul, Kuldeep, and all these. So, there are good chances. India will be the favorites with Bumrah, Kohli, and Gill; even Hardik will be back. These are big names. The opposition will have to play their best cricket against India to beat them," he stated.
India will next play an ODI series in England in July.
