Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ayush Mhatre is likely to remain out of action for the next couple of months after sustaining a left hamstring injury and a fresh wrist injury, TOI reported on Monday (May 4).

The 18-year-old suffered a severe hamstring tear while batting for CSK in an IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 18.

Along with the initial hamstring injury, Mhatre has now been diagnosed with a wrist injury, extending his recovery window.

“Ayush not only has a left hamstring injury, but has also been diagnosed with a wrist injury. He is now likely to be out of action for a couple of months,” a source tracking developments told the publication.

Due to the extended recovery period, Ayush Mhatre will miss the upcoming T20 Mumbai League scheduled for June 2026. He was recently retained for the tournament by the Triumph Knights alongside India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav.

Before being ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026, Mhatre was in sensational form, scoring 201 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 177.87. CSK subsequently signed Akash Madhwal as his injury replacement.

“Ayush’s injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery,” CSK had posted on social media.

CSK batting coach Mike Hussey had described Ayush Mhatre’s injury as a "big, big loss" for the franchise.

“It looks pretty bad, unfortunately. He’s going to be a big, big loss because he’s been in really nice touch for us,” Hussey said.
