Naqvi had taken the Asia Cup trophy in his custody after the Indian team refused to accept it from him.
The Men’s Asia Cup 2025 concluded with a massive controversy in September as Team India refused to accept their winners' trophy and medallions from ACC and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and posted anti-India sentiments on social media throughout the tournament.
Furious with India’s stand, Naqvi took the silverware and medals in his custody. After BCCI’s protest, the PCB boss said that if India wants the trophy, skipper Suryakumar Yadav can collect it from his ACC office in Dubai.
In a recent interview with Telecom Asia Sport, Naqvi reiterated his condition that India will have to receive the prize from him.
“There is a status quo on trophy handing. If India wants the trophy, they must send their captain to Dubai and receive it from me," Naqvi said.
India and Pakistan faced each other thrice in the continental showpiece and the former emerged victorious on all occasions, including the title clash. In all three meetings, the Men in Blue refused to shake hands and exchange post-match pleasantries with their Pakistani counterparts.
The no-handshake policy continued when the two arch-rivals squared off in the Women’s Cricket World Cup, Asia Cup Rising Stars and U19 Asia Cup.
Naqvi stated that Pakistan have no desire to shake hands with the Indian team if the gesture is not reciprocated.
“If India does not allow their players to shake hands with our players, then it will be dealt with on equal terms, and there will be no compromise. We have no interest in shaking hands with them," he added.
The PCB chairman also said he will write to the ICC over the rude conduct of Indian Under-19 players in the Junior Asia Cup.
“We will be writing a letter to the ICC to complain about the behaviour of Indian Junior players during the final of the Junior Asia Cup, which was not acceptable," Naqvi remarked.
