Mumbai has been placed in Elite Group C in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Shardul Thakur, India's all-rounder, will captain the Mumbai team. However, despite not being named in Mumbai's VHT 2025 team, it does not imply that all of these Indian stars would miss the one-day tournament.
“All these Indian players will be accommodated in the Mumbai squad when they are available. If they aren't available, it's not right to name them in the squad and deprive a youngster of a place in the team," Mumbai's senior selection committee chairman Sanjay Patil told the Times of India.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was hospitalized in Pune after suffering from acute gastroenteritis after Mumbai's last match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy against Rajasthan.
"He will be included in the Mumbai squad once he gets clearance from the medical team," Patil said.
India's next international series begins with a three-match ODI series against New Zealand on January 11, 2026, at Vadodara. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently made it mandatory for all Indian players to compete in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, provided they are not injured or recovering at the Centre of Excellence.
Meanwhile, former India and Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane has requested to be rested for the Mumbai team's first few matches in the league round of the tournament.
"He has a hamstring issue and will rest and recover. He will join the Mumbai team after the first couple of matches," Patil said.
The group stage of VHT will be held between Dec 24, 2025, and January 8, 2026. Mumbai has been placed in Elite Group C, alongside Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Goa, and will play their matches in Jaipur.
The Mumbai selectors have given a maiden call-up to opener Ishan Mulchandani. Angkrish Raghuvanshi survived despite a poor SMAT. Sarfaraz Khan, who rocked the T20 competition with 329 runs in seven matches at an average of 65.80 and a strike rate of 203.80, was included as well, along with his brother Musheer Khan.
