India defeated Pakistan thrice in Asia Cup 2025, including the final in Dubai on September 28.
India won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, but the Suryakumar Yadav-led team declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi.
The Indian cricket team has yet to get the trophy that the ACC chairman Naqvi took with him. At the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings in Dubai, the BCCI was supposed to bring up the matter.
However, Saikia stated that the 'ice was broken' with the PCB when the two cricket bodies discussed the matter 'informally.' According to the Times of India, ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khawaja and CEO Sanjog Gupta mediated the meetings between the BCCI and the PCB.
"I was a part of both the informal and formal meetings of the ICC. PCB chairperson Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During the course of a formal meeting, it was not on the agenda, but the ICC facilitated a meeting between me and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official.
It was really good to start the process of negotiation. Both sides cordially participated in the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the ICC board meeting," Saikia told PTI.
The trophy has been lying at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, with the personnel there directed by Naqvi not to move it without his approval. He has stressed that the Indians must receive the highest reward from him.
"Both sides will work out something to solve the issue at the earliest. The ice has been broken now, so various options will be worked out. There will be options from the other side as well, and we will also give options on how to settle this issue and come to an amicable solution," Saikia said.
