Rohit is the fifth Indian after Tendulkar, Dhoni, Kohli and Gill to become the No.1 ranked ODI batter.
Rohit achieved the feat at the age of 38 years and 182 days, moving up two places to reach the summit for the first time in his career. Rohit replaced India’s captain, Shuman Gill, from the pole position.
Rohit, who had 745 rating points to his credit last week, scored 73 runs from 97 balls in the second ODI against Australia at Adelaide Oval on October 23 and backed it up with 121* from 125 balls in the third match played at SCG on October 25. The two knocks helped him gain 36 rating points.
Gill, who managed to aggregate only 43 runs in three ODIs against Australia, has now slipped from first to third position in the rankings table. The Australia series also marked his debut as ODI captain and India lost it by 2-1 margin.
Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 74 from 81 balls in the third ODI against Australia, after bagging back-to-back ducks in the first two matches. Kohli now has 730 rating points, up from 724 last week. He, however, continued to hold No. 5 position in the rankings chart.
