Rohit Sharma has 329 runs in 14 matches for MI in IPL 2025.
In the current Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), former India opener Virender Sehwag has made a lighthearted jab at Rohit Sharma's difficulties in the powerplay.
Aakash Chopra, a former India opener, pointed out in the Hindi commentary during the Punjab Kings vs. Mumbai Indians game at Sawai Man Singh Stadium that Rohit Sharma hadn't gotten much of the strike until the fourth over. Compared to Ryan Rickelton, his opening partner, Rohit had only faced eight balls.
Chopra's co-commentator Sehwag made a subtle jab at the former skipper of the Mumbai Indians.
"Acha hai. Is bahane wo powerplay ke baad tak tike rahenge. Warna, powerplay mein jitni jyada gendein wo khelte hai, utne jyada chances ho jaate hai unke out hone ke. (It's good. This way, he would still be at the crease after the powerplay. Otherwise, the more balls he faces in the powerplay, the more chances there are of him getting out),” Sehwag took a jibe at Rohit Sharma.
Against Punjab Kings, Rohit scored a shaky twenty-one-ball twenty-four. He played a big shot today and dropped, but he never seemed set.
The ball sailed towards long-on, where Nehal Wadhera made a fantastic catch diving forward, after he cleared space and attempted to run down the ground but failed to get it anywhere near the middle. He did well to take it low, hold on, and topple over even though the ball was dying on him.
So far this season, Rohit Sharma has only scored three runs over fifty in 13 innings and has been removed nine times in the powerplay. Thus far in the tournament, Rohit has only amassed 329 runs at a strike rate of 147.53.
In order to guarantee a spot in the top two of the playoffs and two opportunities to advance to the IPL final, Punjab Kings soundly defeated the Mumbai Indians by seven wickets.
