MI defeated DC by 12 runs despite 89 from Karun Nair.
During the Delhi Capitals (DC) v Mumbai Indians (MI) IPL 2025 match in Delhi on Sunday, MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah and DC’s Karun Nair got into an ugly fight.
DC won the toss and chose to bowl first. MI managed to string some good scores and partnerships to post 205/5 in 20 overs. Tilak Varma top-scored with 59, while Ryan Rickelton (41), Suryakumar Yadav (40), and Naman Dhir (38*) contributed as well.
In response, the DC innings was all Karun Nair. Playing his first IPL match since 2020, Nair smacked 89 in 40 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes. He also added 119 runs with Abishek Porel for the second wicket. However, despite looking good to win the match, DC collapsed in final overs.
Ashutosh Sharma (17) and Vipraj Nigam (14) tried to keep the run chase on course, but three runouts in three balls of the 19th over saw them getting bowled out for 193 runs and lost the game by 12 runs.
During the DC innings, Karun Nair, playing his first IPL match after 5 years, hit a sublime 89, his first IPL fifty since IPL 2018.
In the meantime, on the sixth ball of the sixth over, Nair and Bumrah collided. After playing a full throw from Bumrah in the direction of the deep square leg, Nair started running.
Bumrah was positioned close to the non-striker's end when Nair struck him in the back while finishing the first run. This was immediately apparent to Nair, who ran back for a double and apologized.
Following the incident, Bumrah became agitated and was observed yelling at Karun Nair during the drinks break. Hardik Pandya was then seen advising Nair to calm down once he had finished explaining everything.
In light of this, Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the Mumbai Indians, was spotted pulling a funny face and speaking to Nair.
Jasprit Bumrah and Karun Nair kept on discussing the matter in animateded manner even after the match ended and videos of the same went viral.
