Sanju Samson broke his finger after being hit by a Jofra Archer delivery.
Sanju Samson, India's wicketkeeper-batsman, has undergone finger surgery but is expected to return in time for the IPL 2025, where he will lead the Rajasthan Royals. Samson sustained the injury during the fifth T20I against England earlier this month when he was struck by a Jofra Archer ball early in the match.
Samson scored 16 off seven and was later replaced due to an injury, as Dhruv Jurel kept wickets in his place and went on to collect three catches in India's stunning 150-run victory. The injury prompted Samson to miss Kerala's Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Jammu & Kashmir in Pune on February 8.
As per the ESPNCricinfo report, Samson is expected to recover for approximately a month following his surgery on Tuesday. That provides him adequate time to prepare for the IPL, which will begin on the March 21-22-23 weekend.
Rajasthan Royals posted a photo of Sanju Samson with the doctors in the hospital. They captioned the post, “Get well soon, skipper.”
After scoring three hundred in two T20I series in late 2024, Samson appeared to have sealed his place in the Indian team. However, concerns were raised over a forgettable performance at home versus England, when he scored only 51 runs in five innings despite striking at 118.60.
Samson, who scored a century in his last ODI outing for India in December 2023, was also ruled out of contention for a spot in India's Champions Trophy team after being excluded from Kerala's one-day squad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kerala's selectors decided after he failed to attend the preparation camp for the white-ball competition.
