Rishabh Pant will succeed KL Rahul as Lucknow Super Giants captain.
Rishabh Pant, the newly named captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has thanked India captain Rohit Sharma and other senior players for refining his leadership qualities.
As LSG begins a new chapter, the franchise has put its faith in Pant, who is known for his daring batting and imposing presence on the field.
Pant, who made his international debut for Virat Kohli in 2017, has also had the opportunity to play alongside the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Reflecting on his path, Pant underlined the importance of learning from different leaders.
"Yes, I've learned from a lot of captains and many senior players because I believe leadership lessons are not confined to captains alone. There’s so much to gain from experienced players and the way they approach the evolving game,” Pant said after being appointed LSG captain.
Pant particularly highlighted the influence of Rohit, noting the importance of care and trust in leadership.
"With Rohit bhai, I’ve learned how to care for a player, and that resonates with my own philosophy as a captain. When you give confidence and trust to a player, he can achieve things beyond imagination for the team,” he explained.
Last season, Pant led DC with determination, scoring 446 runs to become the team's leading scorer. However, the Delhi Capitals underperformed expectations, placing sixth and missing the playoffs.
Pant emphasized the necessity of instilling a "never-say-die" attitude within the LSG team.
"Performance may come and go, but what matters is your fight. Are you giving 100% on the field? Everyone gets tired, but it’s about pushing that extra 20-30% for the team. That’s the culture we want to build,” Pant stated.
Rishabh Pant will work with Zaheer Khan, LSG mentor, and Justin Langer, LSG coach in IPL 2025.
