The IPL 2025 mega auction resumed in Jeddah on Monday.
The IPL 2025 mega auction resumed in Jeddah on Monday (November 25) with 577 cricketers vying for 204 vacant slots in the 10 franchise teams.
On Sunday (November 24), only 84 players went under the hammer and the likes of Shreyas Iyer (INR 26.75 Crore to PBKS), Rishabh Pant (INR 27 Crore to LSG), Venkatesh Iyer (INR 23.75 Crore to KKR) and Yuzvendra Chahal (INR 18 Crore to PBKS) hogged the headlines with their whopping price tags.
While the first day saw fierce bidding war in the first few sets, the second day started with some of the leading names of world cricket going unsold at the grand auction.
New Zealand’s star batter Kane Williamson, who was released by the Gujarat Titans earlier this month, entered into the auction ring with a base price of INR 2 Crore. However, the classy right-hander failed to attract any franchise.
Another big name failing to find a buyer was India batter Ajinkya Rahane, who was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in the last two seasons. His starting price at the auction was INR 1.50 Crore.
Prithvi Shaw’s fate was similar as well. Having been released by the Delhi Capitals, Shaw came to the auction with a base price of INR 75 Lakh but none of the 10 IPL teams showed interested in him.
Despite his all-round abilities, Shardul Thakur failed to get a bid at the mega auction. Thakur, a two-time IPL winner with CSK in 2018 and 2021, had the base price of INR 2 Crore.
