Each of the 10 IPL teams submitted their final list of retained players on October 31.
As per the BCCI guidelines, each of the 10 IPL teams was allowed to retain up to six cricketers, through the retention and Right To Match (RTM) option. These six retentions/RTMs needed to consist of a maximum of five capped players (both Indian and overseas) and up to two uncapped players.
Each franchise was allocated INR 120 crore salary purse and they were supposed to shell out INR 75 crore for their retained members. The cost of first three retentions was set at INR 18 crore, INR 14 crore and INR 11 crore, while the cost of fourth and fifth retentions was fixed at INR 18 crore and INR 14 crore respectively. The uncapped player allowed teams to retain players for just INR 4 crore.
However, the teams were free to divide the retention purse of INR 75 crore in any way they see fit.
List of retained players by Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH):
Heinrich Klaasen headlined Sunrises Hyderabad’s retention list as the franchise retained him for a hefty sum of INR 23 crore. Pat Cummins and Abhishek Sharma were the next two retentions, costing SRH INR 18 crore and INR 14 crore respectively.
Travis Head and Nitish Reddy were also locked in as the Sunrisers completed five retentions. While Head was retained for INR 14 crore, Reddy fetched INR 6 crore.
SRH spent a total of INR 75 crore on their five retentions. The IPL 2016 champions now have INR 45 crore left in their kitty for the next month’s grand auction, where they can use the RTM card to draft an uncapped player back into their squad.
List of retained players by Gujarat Titans (GT):
Uncapped hitters Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan were also retained by the franchise, leaving them with one RTM option at the upcoming IPL mega auction.
By retaining these five players, GT subtracted a total of INR 51 crore from their overall purse of INR 120 crore. The 2022 champions now have INR 69 crore left in their kitty for the mega auction, where they can use the RTM card to retain a removed player.
