Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, all teams are set to undergo a major overhaul as the mega auction will be held next month.

The BCCI recently announced the retention rules, and now the ball is in the team’s court to make the tricky decisions. Each of the 10 IPL franchises can retain up to six cricketers, through the retention and Right To Match (RTM) option.

October 31 is the deadline for retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Meanwhile, a report published in TOI claimed that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finalized their five retentions.

According to the report, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana and MS Dhoni will again don the yellow jersey next season. The five-time champions will use the uncapped player rule to retain the services of Dhoni for only INR 4 crore.

CSK will be left with one Right to Match (RTM) option and that decision could be taken on the basis of auction dynamics - Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra being top of the ladder, the report added.

The report further stated that Ruturaj and Jadeja will be officially retained for INR 18 crore and INR 14 crore respectively, and they might end up getting the same money.

Earlier this week, the IPL Governing Council released a significant update on the price structure of players in the IPL 2025 ahead of the blockbuster auction. The teams can divide the capped retention purse of INR 75 crore among five capped players in any way they see fit.

As per the report, CSK may respect the seniority of Jadeja and the leadership position of Ruturaj and offer them the same purse, even though one will be above the other when the list is submitted.

Both may get INR 16 crore each despite Jadeja being listed as INR 18 crore retention and Ruturaj as Rs 14 crore. The final decision, though, will be taken after discussion with the players.

While Dhoni will take the INR 4 crore retention, it will be interesting to see CSK’s final deal with the duo of Dube and Pathirana.
