Delhi Capitals (DC) endured a crushing 106-run defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 16 of the IPL 2024 season at Vizag on Wednesday (April 3).

Riding on Sunil Narine’s swashbuckling 85 off 39 balls and emerging star Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s maiden IPL half-century (54 off 27 balls), KKR racked a mammoth 272/7 on the board – the second highest total in league’s history. Andre Russell (41 off 19 balls) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8 balls) also produced brilliant cameos with the bat.

In reply, Delhi’s innings folded for 166 in 17.2 overs. While skipper Rishabh Pant (55 off 25) and Tristan Stubbs (54 off 32) slammed quickfire half-centuries, they didn’t get adequate support from the other end.

After the game, DC captain Rishabh Pant graciously accepted the defeat while reflecting on his team's below-par showing, stating that it was just a bad day at the office for them.

"Our bowlers were all over the place. We just didn't turn up on the day. Today was one of those days. As a batting unit, we only wanted to keep going hard as a team. I would rather get all out as a team than not go for the target. (Some reviews not taken) I think it was quite loud here," Pant said at the post-match interaction.

"At the same time, I couldn't see the timer on the screen. There was some problem on the screen. But there are some things you can control, some things you can't. (Use of Axar, only one over) See the thought process was that we didn't want to use spinners, but our fast bowlers were going through the motions,” he added.

"I think it is time for reflection as an individual. We need to learn from these mistakes and come positive in the next match. (Pant's own body) Doing fine. Getting out there. Enjoying every day but cricket has its own ups and downs," he further remarked.

It was DC’s third defeat in four games this season. They are currently holding the ninth spot on the points table, featuring 10 teams.

Delhi Capitals will next face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 7).
