Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday (April 3) registered a resounding 106-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 16 of the IPL 2024 season at Vizag.

Opting to bat first, the Knight Riders racked up a mammoth 272/7 on the board – the second highest total in IPL history.

Sunil Narine was the top scorer with 85 off 39 balls (7 fours and 7 sixes), while Angkrish Raghuvanshi smashed a dazzling half-century (54 off 27 balls). Andre Russell (41 off 19 balls) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8 balls) also returned with brilliant cameos.

In reply, DC’s innings folded for 166 in 17.2 overs. While skipper Rishabh Pant (55 off 25) and Tristan Stubbs (54 off 32) slammed quickfire half-centuries, they didn’t get enough support from the other end.

It was KKR’s third victory in as many matches this season and they now hold the top spot on the points table, featuring 10 teams.

Despite the dominant display so far, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer warned his team against complacency and urged them to remain focused.

"You always have to be down to earth, especially in the IPL," Iyer said in the post-match presentation.

Commenting on posting IPL's second highest total ever, Shreyas said that he initially thought of 210-220 after Narine's blitz but 270 was beyond expectation.

"No no, the way we started we thought 210-220, but 270 was icing on the cake. As I said in the toss interview, Sunny is there to take on the bowlers, and if he cannot the rest of us should. That's the plan," he added.

The captain had special praise for emerging star Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who impressed one and all with his audacious strokeplay.

"He was fearless from ball one. His work ethic is phenomenal. He analyzes situations well. He is a smart batter, shots were pleasing to the eye," Iyer remarked.

Kolkata Knight Riders will next face Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Monday (April 8).
