Former India opening batter Navjot Singh Sidhu, who made his commentary return in the recent IPL 2024, lavished rich praise on former MI captain Rohit Sharma. Sharma was replaced as MI captain by Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2024 season in a controversial decision by the management.

However, nothing has gone MI’s way as Hardik Pandya’s captaincy debut has resulted in MI losing both of their matches till now in IPL 2024. He has been targetted with jibes and boos in both Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, and many expect the same treatment when he plays at home in Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma has done his part with the bat as the opener of the MI team, scoring 43 and 26 in the two matches.

Taking to social media platform X, Sidhu reckons that MI are lucky to have a player like Rohit in their squad. He summed up Rohit's class with one of his trademark poetries.

"Even if the elephant is covered in dust, it will still be respected. Even tying the dog with a gold chain does not make one respectable," Sidhu captioned a video on X.

Rohit has been a legend of IPL, winning a total of 6 trophies. He won his first IPL title with Deccan Chargers in 2009 and then captained MI to five titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Rohit has played 200 IPL matches for MI, scoring 5110 runs with one century, 34 fifties, and an average of 29.36.

MI faces Rajasthan Royals in their next match on Monday.
