MI’s playoff berth, though, was only confirmed after defending champions and table-toppers Gujarat Titans beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in the second game of the day.
Shubman Gill led the way in GT’s 198-run target chase with a sublime 104*, hitting a six on the first ball of the 20th over off Wayne Parnell to win by 6 wickets and as a result put MI into playoffs by eliminating RCB from IPL 2023.
Soon after Gill hit the match-winning six to guide GT to win and complete consecutive IPL tons, MI players, who were glued to the TV screens, started to celebrate.
A clip of a behind-the-scenes video was shared on social media, showing the MI players jumping in joy and hugged each other, while Dewald Brevis and Jason Behrendorff can be seen shaking hands.

MI will now face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator on Wednesday, May 24 in Chennai.
GT, meanwhile, lock horns with four-time champions CSK in Qualifier 1 at the aforementioned venue on Tuesday (May 23). The winner will directly book their place in the IPL 2023 final. The losing team will progress to Qualifier 2.
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the Qualifier 2 and the final, scheduled for May 26 and 28, respectively.
