Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a 56-run thrashing at the hands of Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 51 of IPL 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 7).

Invited to bat first, the defending champions rode on stunning knocks from Shubman Gill (94* off 51) and Wriddhiman Saha (81 off 43) to rack up a massive 227/2 on the board.

In the chase, LSG were restricted to 171/7 in their allotted 20 overs. While the duo of Quinton de Kock (70 off 41) and Kyle Mayers (48 off 32) did well at the top, other batters failed to step up to the plate.

Speaking after the loss, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya said they conceded too many runs in the first innings while also adding that had they restricted GT under 200 or less, they would have had a chance.

“Yes 100% agreed. We gave away too many runs and it's 227 and we were behind the eight ball. The surface was good but the last 6-7 overs it slowed down. Had we restricted them to 200 or less we would have had a chance,” said Krunal at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The game also put the Pandya brothers against each other. While Hardik scored 25 off 15 balls, Krunal bagged a golden duck in Ahmedabad.

“You don't dream of these things. Family is proud of both of us and Mother is happy. I mean we do but there is so much of love between me and Hardik. We may have a good banter but we love each other and there is so much respect between us. Disappointed to lose today and hope to come back stronger in the next game,” Krunal added.

With this victory, GT strengthened their position at the top of the points table, amassing 16 points from 11 matches. On the other hand, LSG occupy the third spot with 11 points in as many games.
