Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed in the 49th match of the tournament, which is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 6, 2023. The two teams had previously met on April 8th at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai and CSK prevailed by 7 wickets.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss at Chepauk and chose to bowl first and said that CSK was unchanged. MI, on the other hand, made one change as Tilak Varma missed out due to a niggle and Tristan Stubbs came into the XI. Raghav Goyal made his IPL debut for MI as impact sub.

MI managed only 139/8 in 20 overs as Nehal Wadhera top scored with 64 in 51 balls, his first IPL fifty, and Suryakumar Yadav and Tristan Stubbs made 20.

For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana was the pick of bowlers as he ended up with 3/15 in his 4 overs. Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets each.
