Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul sustained a hamstring injury during his team’s IPL 2023 clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday (May 1).

Rahul was chasing the ball to stop it from going towards the boundary before pulling up. He was in serious pain and walked off the field.

Days after the incident, a report published in Cricbuzz claims that Rahul won’t take any further part in the ongoing IPL season and he has already left the franchise camp. The LSG captain is in Mumbai for scans, and the BCCI has taken over his case.

According to the report, KL Rahul is most likely to miss the bus for the ICC World Test Championship final as well. India are due to face Australia in the WTC final at the Oval from June 7 to 11.

“The results of the scans will determine Rahul's participation in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in London early next month. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) team, which monitors his treatment, has not informed the concerned, including the team management as of Thursday night but those who know the situation are not exactly optimistic. In all probability Rahul will be out of the WTC final too,” Cricbuzz reported.

There’s no clarity over Rahul’s injury as neither the LSG management nor the BCCI have released an official statement. It is learnt that he could be suffering from a hamstring or hip injury.

As per the report, Ishan Kishan is likely to be the second wicketkeeper for the one-off Test if Rahul misses out.

The Indian team is likely to depart for London a day or two after the league phase of the IPL ends, which is on May 21. The WTC final-bound players featuring in the IPL play-offs will leave for the UK at a later date.
