IPL 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as KKR snatches victory from jaws of defeat after beating SRH by 5 runs in last over drama

KKR has 8 points from 10 matches and is placed 8th, SRH is 9th with 3 wins from 9 games on points table.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clashed with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 47th match of the ongoing IPL 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal Hyderabad on May 4.

KKR captain Nitish Rana won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite losing two early wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a golden duck and Venkatesh Iyer for 7 runs, the team rebuilt itself.

Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh made 42 and 46 runs respectively and with Andre Russell contributing 24 runs, KKR posted a fighting 171/9 in 20 overs. For SRH, Marco Jansen and T Natarajan picked two wickets each.

In reply, SRH had the game in their half for most of the 20 overs as captain Aiden Markram top-scored with 41 and Heinrich Klaasen made 36 runs. The onus was on Abdul Samad to finish the game with 9 runs needed in 6 balls.

Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Samad in the last over for 21 runs, and defended 9 runs easily with SRH winning by 5 runs, as SRH finished on 166/9 in 20 overs.

With this win, KKR now has 8 points from 10 matches and is placed 8th on the points table, while SRH remains 9th with 6 points from 9 games.

The cricket fraternity was left stunned as SRH bottled a game they should have won and lauded KKR for their resilience on Twitter.
