Rohit Sharma’s dismissal created quite a stir on social media during the IPL 2023 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 30).

During the second over of MI’s innings, Rohit was given out bowled against Sandeep Sharma for just 3. However, some videos later surfaced on the internet highlighting that the MI skipper was at the receiving end of an unfair decision.

By watching the viral clips, it seemed that RR wicketkeeper Sanju Samson dislodged the bails with his gloves in the process of gathering the ball and Rohit may have been given out wrongly.

Since the on-field umpires didn’t go upstairs to check for the dismissal, the MI camp was reportedly left disappointed as well.

“It was too close. From the front-on visual it looked very close. Surprised that it wasn’t referred for a second look,” a source in the MI camp told CricketNext.

The report also claimed that the umpire’s decision is likely to find a mention in the captain’s report by Rohit.

“The dismissal and the fact that no side-on-angle replay was taken after the dismissal is likely to be mentioned in Rohit’s report after the game. A captain submits a report after every game where concerns like these can be voiced,” the source added.

Amid the outrage, the official handle of IPL posted a video on Twitter where it can be clearly visible that the ball disturbed the zing bails before landing in Sanju’s gloves.

“The dismissal that had the world talking! IPL’s 1000th match had no shortage of drama,” IPL wrote in the caption of the video.

Coming to the match, Mumbai Indians registered a thrilling six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring affair.

Chasing 213 to win, the hosts got over the line with three deliveries to spare thanks to an onslaught from Tim David (45* off 14). Earlier, Cameron Green (44 off 26) and Suryakumar Yadav (55 off 29) returned with dazzling knocks to set up the chase.
