The 34th match of the IPL 2023 saw Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosting the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on April 24. Both teams occupy the bottom two spots in the points table.

Meanwhile, DC captain David Warner won the toss and chose to bat first given his extensive knowledge of the Hyderabad ground and surface. DC finally dropped the ono-performing Prithvi Shaw and replaced him with Sarfaraz Khan.

The pitch in Hyderabad was difficult to bat on and thanks to 34 runs each from Manish Pandey and Akshar Patel, DC managed to post 144/9 in 20 overs. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 2/11 in 4 overs for SRH, Washington Sundar took 3/28 as well.

In reply, Mayank Agarwal (49) was the top-scorer for SRH and at halfway stage it looked like, they would chase the target with ease. But then DC bowlers came good in the middle overs and put SRH in a bind.

Heinrich Klaasen made 31 in 19 balls and Washington Sundar made 24* in 15 balls, but Mukesh Kumar bowled brilliantly to defend 13 runs in the last over and helped DC win by 7 runs.

Akshar Patel and Anrich Nortje picked two wickets each for DC.

This is only the second win for DC in this IPL 2023 and despite this, they remain at the 10th spot, while SRH are in the 9th spot in the points table.

The cricket fraternity lauded DC for an excellent overall team effort to defend 144 runs and for the win.
