Delhi Capitals’ (DC) rotten luck of form continued in IPL 2023, as they lost their fifth straight match in the tournament, this time to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 15, 2023 in Bengaluru.

David Warner won the toss and chose that DC will bowl first. RCB managed a decent score of 174/6 with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 50. Apart from Kohli, no other RCB batter could do much with Mahipal Lomror (26) and Glenn Maxwell (24) getting starts, but not capitalizing on them. RCB managed 174/6 in 20 overs.

For DC, who bowled really well, Mitchell Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav picked two wickets each.

In response, Prithvi Shaw was the first DC wicket to fall and too for a duck against his name. On the fourth ball of the over from Mohammed Siraj, Shaw placed the delivery towards cover and charged for a single. However, the batter was apprehensive for the run.

However, Shaw continued for the run, but a terrific fielding effort from Anuj Rawat who dived to stop the ball and threw it in the same motion, managed to hit the stumps from a side on view. Replays showed that Shaw was short of the crease and was given run out.

Here is the run out:

Incidentally, David Warner had taken the strike to begin DC's innings and had an opportunity for a double on the second delivery. Shaw, though, refused a second run, leaving Warner annoyed at the Indian opener.

Not only Warner, but commentator Simon Doull was livid at Shaw and said on air on Star Sports: “You have got to take that first run harder. This is unacceptable.”

Shaw previously had scores of 12, 7, 0, and 15 in the first four matches for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023.

Meanwhile, DC couldn’t even give a fight to the chase as only Manish Pandey (50), Anrich Nortje (23*) and Akshar Patel (21) scored notably as they finished on 151/9 in 20 overs and lost by 23 runs.
