IPL 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as Rohit Sharma’s 65 powers MI to 1st win; defeat DC by 6 wickets

Mumbai Indians (MI) finally got onto the IPL 2023 points table after winning a last-ball thriller defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 11, 2023, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Rohit Sharma had won the toss and chosen to bowl first. Despite Prithvi Shaw getting out for 15 runs, David Warner continued at one end. Manish Pandey contributed 26 runs in 18 balls before he got out to Piyush Chawla.

Chawla also got rid of Rovman Powell and Lalit Yadav for single-digit scores while debutant Yash Dhull got out to Riley Meredith. Enter Akshar Patel and together with Warner, they took DC to a decent final total.

While Warner fell for 51 in 47 balls, Akshar made 54, his maiden IPL fifty with 4 fours and 5 sixes as DC made 172 in 19.4 overs. Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff took three wickets each.

In reply, Ishan Kishan (31) and Rohit Sharma (65) added 71 runs for the opening wicket in 7.3 overs when Kishan got runout. Tilak Varma then came in and made 41 runs in 29 balls, adding 68 runs with Rohit.

But then Mukesh Kumar, after getting hit for two sixes and a four in the 16th over by Tilak, removed him and on the next ball, dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck.

In the end, Cameron Green (17*) and Tim David (13*) took MI home by 6 wickets despite Anrich Nortje’s brilliant efforts with the ball to defend 5 runs in the last over.

The cricket fraternity reacted to yet another exciting win in the tournament and the first for MI which was spearheaded by captain Rohit Sharma.
