In what was an humdinger of an encounter, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lost to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday, April 10 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, from a position where they should have won the match.

RCB had batted first after LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bowl. Thanks to 61 from Virat Kohli, 79* from skipper Faf du Plessis and a whirlwind fifty from Glenn Maxwell, RCB posted 212/2 in 20 overs.

In reply, LSG started off poorly but Marcus Stoinis with 65 in 30 and Nicholas Pooran with 62 in 19 balls with seven sixes, brought them back into the game.

It all came down to the last over when 5 runs were needed. Though Harshal Patel picked two wickets in the over, the last ball proved to be an exciting one.

Harshal Patel first missed a runout chance off his bowling at the non-striker’s end and then Dinesh Karthik fumbled the ball on the final delivery as Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi scampered for a bye and won the game for LSG by one wicket.

To rub salt on the wound, RCB captain Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 lakhs after his team was found guilty of maintaining slow over-rate.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 15 against the Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Monday.

As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Faf du Plessis was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” ICC said in a media release.

On the other hand, LSG’s Avesh Khan was also reprimanded by the match referee who, in excitement, flung his helmet after the completion of the winning run.

Lucknow Super Giants’ Avesh Khan has been reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct. Mr Avesh admitted to level 1 offence 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.”

For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.
