IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) haven’t lifted the title since 2016 and one of the main reasons behind it is the constant changes they have made to the squad and the team management.

In 2021, SRH sacked David Warner as captain and then released him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auction. Subsequently, the southpaw was picked by Delhi Capitals.

On the other hand, the Hyderabad-based franchise also released ace spinner Rashid Khan ahead of IPL 2022 and he was roped in by Gujarat Titans in the mega-auction earlier this year.

There were also some controversial reports involving the team management. Recently, former Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi opened up about the issues in the SRH camp, expressing his displeasure with the way Warner and Rashid were treated by the franchise.

“When we (Nabi and Rashid) came to SRH in 2017 and the way we played for the next three years- the team combination and the performance- was best. But after that, what happened to the team in the last two years, who did it and why; I don’t know. Everything from team combination to coaching staff and environment changed. Players were not willing to play for the franchise,” Nabi, who was associated with SRH till 2021, told SportsYaari.

“A franchise as big as SRH should think about building a team rather than destroying it. They should have looked to build a good team slowly instead of making abrupt changes. They let go of Rashid who was a brand for them for five years. Not only Rashid but other top players too. They should not have done that. I don’t understand what they wanted to do,” he added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad endured a dismal IPL 2022 campaign, winning 6 out of the 14 league matches. They finished at the seventh position in the 10-team points table.
