Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) appointed the domestic cricket giant J Arunkumar as their assistant batting coach ahead of the upcoming IPL 2023.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have confirmed the appointment of Arunkumar as their new assistant batting coach for the IPL 2023 via a social media post on Wednesday (December 28).
It will be Arunkumar’s second stint in the IPL, having previously worked as the batting coach of Punjab Kings in IPL 2017.
Notably, Arunkumar played for Karnataka for 16 years, from 1993 to 2008, and scored 7208 first-class runs in his career. After his retirement, he took up coaching and won consecutive Ranji Trophy titles in 2013–14 and 2014–15 as Karnataka's batting coach.
He also helped Karnataka win the Irani Cup and the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Apart from Karnataka, Arunkumar also worked with Hyderabad and Puducherry in domestic cricket. He was also the head coach of the USA men’s national team for two years.
