In a big development, West Indies batting legend Brian Lara on Saturday (September 3) replaced former Australian cricketer Tom Moody as Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) head coach for the 2023 edition of IPL.

This will be Lara’s first stint as a head coach of a T20 team. He was associated with SRH as a batting coach in the 2022 season.

"The cricketing legend Brian Lara will be our head coach for the upcoming #IPL seasons," the official handle of SRH tweeted.

According to an ESPNCricinfo report, Moody and SRH parted ways mutually. The 56-year-old had two separate stints with the franchise. Under his coaching between 2013 and 2019, the Hyderabad-based franchise reached the playoffs five times and emerged victorious in 2016.

Moody parted ways with SRH before 2020 as the Orange Army appointed Trevor Bayliss as head coach. SRH finished third in the competition and Bayliss was retained.

Meanwhile, Moody rejoined the franchise last year as Director of Cricket but SRH endured their worst season ever, with just three wins in 11 games. Bayliss was then sacked and Moody took up the role again but SRH could win just six matches in the 10-team competition in 2022 and failed to reach the playoffs.

Tom Moody will now join Desert Vipers, one of the six franchises in the ILT20. He was recently named Vipers’ director of cricket.
