RCB suffered defeats in Eliminator match in the last two seasons.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag took a jab at former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli ahead of the ongoing IPL 2022 Qualifier 2 between RCB and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 24 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Notably, RCB advanced to the IPL playoffs for the second time in a row and for the seventh time in a row, but they have yet to win a trophy. Fans will be hoping for a different story this season under new captain Faf du Plessis.
Well, Faf du Plessis's maiden stint with RCB has been quite fruitful and he would certainly be looking to win the trophy as captain in the IPL 2022. While the South African star's captaincy has been hailed by many, and now Sehwag has joined the long list, at the same time, he launched a scathing attack on Kohli.
The former cricketer said that Kohli used to chop and change his side a lot after a couple of poor games, but now new captain Du Plessis and head coach Sanjay Bangar have brought about a lot of consistency in the side and it helped RCB a lot in the IPL 15.
Sehwag said on Cricbuzz: “The arrival of Sanjay Bangar as head coach and a new captain has changed RCB'e thinking. We have seen how Virat Kohli used to think as he used to drop a player after no performance in 2-3 games. But Bangar and Du Plessis have kept the team almost consistent throughout. Except for Patidar for Anuj Rawat, I don't think they made any changes due to poor performance.”
He signed off by saying, “If an Indian player had been captain and if Virat Kohli had given him some advice, he might have had to accept it under pressure. So this is what has changed with du Plessis as captain. Sanjay Bangar has also worked with Kohli and he can have a conversation with him about that although he gives advice, the team wants to do something else.”
