Umran Malik bowled the fastest ball of IPL 2022 at 157 kmph.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly lauded a young pace sensation from Jammu and Kashmir, Umran Malik, regarding his performance in IPL 2022 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and opined that if the speedster managed to stay fit then he would be around for a long time.
"His future is in his hands. If he stays fit and bowls at this pace, I'm sure he will be around for a long time," the former captain of the Indian team said.
Umran took 22 wickets in 14 matches for SRH, at a strike rate of 13.57 and a five-wicket and four-wicket haul to his name. Umran Malik found a place in the 18-member Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa at home.
Speaking highly of other young emerging players, Ganguly said, "Many have played well in this IPL. Tilak (Varma) has done well for Mumbai Indians. Rahul (Tripathi) for Sunrisers, Tewatia for Gujarat Titans. We have seen many emerging fast bowlers like Umran Malik, Mohsin Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan... It's a place where talent gets exposure."
KL Rahul will lead the team and Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain for the T20I series against South Africa while senior players like Virat, Rohit, Bumrah, and, Shami are rested.
The series commences on 9th June.
