Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are struggling for runs in the ongoing IPL.
In the IPL 2022 so far, Kohli has played 13 innings for RCB and managed to amass only 236 runs at an average of 19.67, including three golden ducks while his highest score has been 58.
On the other hand, MI captain Rohit has featured in 12 games, aggregating 218 runs at 18.17 with the best score of 43. Rohit’s poor showing with the bat reflects on his team’s standing as Mumbai Indians (MI) are occupying the last spot on the IPL 2022 points table, having lost 9 out of their 12 matches.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's form is a cause of concern for the Indian fans with the T20 World Cup slated to be held in Australia later this year.
However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly isn’t worried as he believes the duo will regain form before the global tournament.
“I’m not worried at all about the form of Rohit or Virat. They are too good…real big players. The World Cup is far away and I am quite confident that they will be in top shape much before the tournament," Ganguly told Mid Day.
After the IPL 2022 season, India will host South Africa for five T20Is before travelling to UK to play T20Is against Ireland and England. The Men in Blue will then return home to play three more T20Is against Australia.
Meanwhile, the BCCI chief also spoke about Umran Malik, who has caught everyone’s attention with his raw pace in the ongoing IPL.
Playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Umran has consistently clocked 150+ kmph and many top batters have found him difficult to face. The 22-year-old has hurled the fastest delivery – 157 kmph – in the IPL 15 season as well.
“How many can bowl at 150 km? Not many. I won’t be surprised if he gets picked for the national team. We have to be careful in using him, though. Umran is the fastest. I also like Kuldeep Sen. Also, T Natarajan has made comeback. We will have Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami. Finally, it is up to the selectors,” said Ganguly.
