Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer opened a can of worms after his team’s big win over Mumbai Indians the other night in the ongoing IPL 2022. In a do-or-die encounter at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, KKR defeated MI by 52 runs to stay alive in playoff contention.

Despite Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant 5/10, KKR managed to put up 165/9 in 20 overs with Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer both scoring 43 each. In reply, MI was bowled out for 113 in 17.3 overs as Pat Cummins took 3 and Andre Russell took 2 wickets respectively.

The surprising thing was that KKR had made 5 changes in their playing XI from the last match as Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, Sheldon Jackson, Pat Cummins, and Varun Chakravarthy replaced Shivam Mavi, Anukul Roy, Aaron Finch, Baba Indrajith and Harshit Rana in the XI.

Following the win, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer was asked in the post-match presentation about how he go about with the conversation of dropping and axing.

In a shocking revelation, Iyer revealed that at times even KKR CEO, Venky Mysore, is also involved in the team selection process.

It is really difficult (to tell players about axings). Coach and at times, CEO is also obviously involved in team selections. Each and every player takes it well, and they have put in their best efforts,” he said.

This led to quite a storm on social media and Twitterverse reacted to the same as well.
