Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got back to winning ways under the captaincy of legendary MS Dhoni in the ongoing IPL as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 13 runs at MCA Stadium, Pune on Sunday (May 1).

Asked to bat first, CSK piled up a massive 202/2 in their 20 overs on the back of stunning knocks from openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (99 off 57 balls) and Devon Conway (85* off 55 balls).

Amid the carnage, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0-22) returned with economical figures for SRH in his four overs. T Natarajan (2-42) claimed both the wickets fell in CSK’s innings but the left-arm pacer was quite expensive with the ball.

In reply, SRH got off to a brisk start as the duo of Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma put on 58 runs inside the powerplay.

Mukesh Choudhary drew the first blood for CSK by dismissing Abhishek on 24-ball 39 and then sent back Rahul Tripathi for a golden duck. Aiden Markram too fell for just 17 while skipper Williamson got out after scoring 47 off 37 balls.

Amid the pressure situation, Nicholas Pooran stepped up to the plate and slammed 64 not out off 33 balls (3 fours and 6 sixes) but it wasn’t enough for SRH’s victory.

For CSK, Mukesh Choudhary (4-46) returned with impressive bowling figures as the defending champions restricted SRH to 189/6 in 20 overs.

Cricket experts on Twitter lauded the MS Dhoni-led side for their clinical display with the bat and ball.
