Former India opener Virender Sehwag is confident that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will see their fortunes turning around now that MS Dhoni had taken over as captain of the side for the remainder of the IPL 2022.

Ravindra Jadeja, who took over Dhoni as the new captain of CSK from the start of the 15th edition of the cash-rich league didn't enjoy much success as the defending champions won just two games out of the eight they have played so far.

This led to CSK announcing that MS Dhoni was taking over as captain for the remaining 6 matches in the tournament to let Ravindra Jadeja focus on his game.

During a chat with Cricbuzz, former India opener Virender Sehwag, who played alongside Dhoni for more than a decade, said that it was better late than never and with Dhoni becoming captain again, it could be possible that the four-time champions still have a chance for playoffs.

He added that he had seen the fortunes of the Indian cricket team changing when MS Dhoni became the captain of the national side as they began winning matches from losing positions, instead of losing matches earlier from winning positions.

Sehwag said, "I have been with that man since 2005 and I have seen Indian cricket change under him. We used to lose the games we had under control and under his captaincy, we won games in which we were on the brink of losing. We had never thought that we'll travel to Australia and beat them 2-0 in two finals of the triangular tournament [Commonwealth Bank Series] and we won that in 2008. Especially, after we were beaten in the Test series.”

"After that we won several ICC knockouts, home series under him, the ones which we used to lose before but they turned into victories. So keeping that in mind, I am saying that it can happen [CSK winning 6 games in a row]," Sehwag further added.

Dhoni will captain CSK against SRH on May 1 for the first time this IPL 2022 season.
