Andre Russell almost took Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to win single-handedly in their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 23, 2022, in the ongoing IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Sports Academy Complex in Navi Mumbai.

Gujarat Titans won the toss and Hardik Pandya became the first captain to choose to bat first. GT made one change as Pandya returned to the XI in place of Vijay Shankar. Kolkata Knight Riders made quite a few changes, as Sam Billings, Tim Southee, and Rinku Singh were included while Aaron Finch, Sheldon Jackson, and Pat Cummins missed out.

Shubman Gill (7) and Wriddhiman Saha (25) got out early, but then Hardik Pandya came to the party and completed his 3rd consecutive half-century in the ongoing IPL 2022, as he finished with 67 runs in 49 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. David Miller contributed 27 runs as GT finished on 156/9 in 20 overs.

Andre Russell took 4/5, with all of his wickets coming in the 20th over and Tim Southee took 3/24.

In reply, KKR's top four was back in the pavilion for 34 runs with Shreyas Iyer (12) being the only one to make scores in double figures. Rinku Singh (35) then brought KKR into the game, but it was Andre Russell, who this time with the bat, almost did the impossible.

He made 48 in 25 balls with 6 sixes and one four and took the equation needed to 18 runs in the last over. Alzarri Joseph dismissed Andre Russell on the second ball of the over to seal the match for his team and KKR only managed 148/8 with Umesh Yadav remaining unbeaten on 15.

GT won the match by 8 runs and moved back to the top of the points table.

The Cricket fraternity was all praises for the heroics of Andre Russell, but also praised the GT bowling attack.
