IPL 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as MI loses 6th match in a row; LSG wins by 18 runs

KL Rahul made 103 in his 100th IPL match, while MI had their their worst start to an IPL season.

The 26th match of the IPL 2022 saw five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) having the worst start to a tournament as they lost their sixth match in a row as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated them by 18 runs.

The match was all LSG as their captain KL Rahul hit his 3rd IPL hundred and took his team to a daunting total of 199/4 in 20 overs. This was after Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided that MI will bowl first.

Quinton de Kock (24 in 13 balls) added 52 for the first wicket, while Manish Pandey also contributed 38 runs with 6 fours. KL Rahul ended up 103* in 60 balls with 5 sixes and 9 fours to his name, in what was his 100th IPL game as well.

In reply, MI never looked in the chase, after Rohit Sharma fell for 6 runs and Ishan Kishan made 13 runs in 17 balls. Dewald Brevis’ sweet but short 31 in 13 balls was the shining light of the first half of MI innings.

Then Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma made a brief recovery, adding 57 runs for the 4th wicket. Tilak Varma was looking good at 26 in 26 balls with 2 fours before Jason Holder bowled him.

Kieron Pollard tried his best with 25 in 14 balls, but in the end, MI finished on 181/9 in 20 overs and lost their sixth match in a row by 18 runs.

For LSG, Avesh Khan picked 3/30.

The cricket fraternity was in shock as MI lost their sixth match in a row, while lauded LSG for a clinical performance as they now have 8 points from 6 games, on social media.
