After suffering five straight defeats in the ongoing IPL 2022, the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise suffered another blow, as they were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday (April 13).
The 23rd match of the ongoing IPL 2022 was played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MCA Stadium in Pune on April 13—where the MI suffered its fifth straight defeat and was also slapped with a Rs 24 lakhs fine for slow over rate against the PBKS.
On Thursday, April 14, the IPL announced that Rohit Sharma and MI team was fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in their last IPL 15 clash, as it was MI’s second offense in the ongoing IPL 2022.
Notably, Rohit Sharma was earlier fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate against the Delhi Capitals (DC).
The IPL stated in a media statement: “The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL match against Punjab Kings at the MCA Stadium, Pune on April 13.”
The statement added, “This was the team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 24 lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lower.”
