In 2013, he was handed the captaincy of the franchise and he left a mark in the very first season as skipper after he led the team to title victory. Rohit Sharma never looked back after that as he then added four titles more to his kitty and made Mumbai Indians the most successful franchise in IPL. He also is the most successful IPL skipper.
Speaking on Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir said that as a captain in IPL, the likes of Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers didn’t daunt him as Rohit Sharma did. He revealed that the Mumbai Indians skipper gave him sleepless nights and there’s no more successful cricketer than him in IPL.
"As captain, Rohit Sharma is the only player who gave me sleepless nights. Neither Chris Gayle nor AB de Villiers nor anyone else, only Rohit Sharma. He is the player who gave me sleepless nights. There is no more successful cricketer in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) than Rohit Sharma as captain,” Gautam Gambhir said.
Irfan Pathan also lavished rich praise on Rohit Sharma, saying the right-hander’s name will “forever be on the top” for Mumbai Indians.
"Rohit Sharma will always be remembered in the history of Mumbai Indians and IPL. Rohit Sharma's name is forever on top for Mumbai Indians,” Irfan Pathan said.
