RCB spent INR 47.75 crores on Day1 of the IPL 2022 auction.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson on Saturday (12th February) said that his side will take a decision on who will become the captain after IPL 2022 auction gets over.
Day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru saw 74 players being sold out and a total of INR 3,88,10,00,000 being spent by the 10 franchises.
Coming to Royal Challengers Banglore, the franchise roped in Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel for INR 10.75 crores each. They also bought Faf du Plessis for INR 7 crores along with Dinesh Karthik, Josh Hazlewood, and Anuj Rawat.
With Virat Kohli stepping down as the skipper last season RCB will also face the challenge of finding a player that can captain the side and lead from the front. With Glenn Maxwell being there as a retained player along with Faf du Plessis, who is new to the mix, the franchise can also look at one among them to hand the leadership role.

Speaking during a virtual press conference, Mike Hesson said that RCB has not discussed the captaincy option yet. He highlighted that although they have great leaders in Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli, and Faf du Plessis, they will make a decision after the auction.
"We have not had that discussion yet. We have three great leaders now in the form of Maxwell, Virat, and Faf du Plessis. We are really happy with those three leaders, we also have Josh Hazlewood as a leader from a bowling point of view. So we are happy with the group, we will make a decision regarding captaincy after the auction," Mike Hesson told the press.
RCB had retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. With the addition of 6 more players, they have filled nine slots. They have so far spent INR 47.75 crores and will enter Day 2 of the mega auction with a purse of 9.25 crores.
