The Indian U-19 players are currently displaying their skills in the Youth World Cup.
Having seen Hangargekar’s exploits in the ongoing U-19 World Cup in West Indies, Ashwin opined that the 19-year-old has exceptional talent with both bat and ball.
Hangargekar has picked up five wickets with his medium-pace so far, with the best figures of 2 for 8 against Uganda. He also slammed 39* off 17 balls, including five sixes, in India’s second match against Ireland in the Youth World Cup.
“This player will certainly be picked at the IPL auction. Which franchise I cannot predict, but he will surely be purchased. His name is Rajvardhan Hangargekar,” Ashwin said on his Youtube channel.
“He is a right-arm medium pacer, who can bowl the inswinger very well. Ishant Sharma is the only one who has the gift among present Indian right-arm pacers. Inswing can usually tuck in batters, which is why I feel he will be in demand,” he added.
Commenting on Hangargekar’s big-hitting ability, Ashwin said: “He is also a strong lower middle-order hitter. The power he generates when he hits the ball is incredible. He should attract at least 5-10 bids. Make sure to watch him out.”
While Ashwin hailed India’s U-19 skipper Yash Dhull as a highly talented batter, he isn’t sure if a franchise would rope him in at the auction.
Dhull smashed 82 in India’s tournament opener against South Africa before being forced to miss the next few games due to COVID-19 positive result.
“Yash Dhull is a highly talented batter. Last time SRH picked up U19 skipper Priyam Garg. Will they do the same this time? We’ll have to wait and watch. DC has also backed a former U19 captain in Shaw.”
