Jason Holder was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021.
Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra suggested West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder’s name for the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022, saying that the all-rounder knows how to run ‘Alpha Males’ in the side.
Preparations for the IPL 2022 have already started. All the existing eight franchises have revealed their retentions list ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction while two new teams, Ahmedabad and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), have also named their list of three players drafted ahead of the mega auction.
The IPL 2022 mega auction will take place in Bangalore on February 12 and 13. A total of 1,214 players have registered themselves, among which 896 are Indians and 318 are overseas players.

Talking about Royal Challengers Bangalore, they have retained Virat Kohli, who stepped down as their skipper, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj. The franchise along with forming a core group will also face the challenge of finding a player in the IPL 2022 mega-auction that can captain the side and lead from the front.
Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra while talking about RCB’s captaincy option said that giving a leadership role to Glenn Maxwell is tempting but is also a volatile option. He further rued giving him the responsibility and feels that franchise should look for other options.
"Can they think about Maxwell? Maxwell is a tempting option but he is also a volatile option. His performance was very good last year. In fact, RCB should pat their backs that they got such good performances from him. But could he be their captain? Tough choice, I won't really go down that route," Aakash Chopra said.
Chopra said that Shreyas Iyer is another option RCB can look at but the franchise’s batting order won’t support him as he is a top-order batter and with the likes of Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, who bats up, in the side he will bat after 4, which won’t work.
"Shreyas Iyer is an option. Bangalore can think about him but personally, he is not my No. 1 pick for Bangalore because the ground is not like that. He is a top-order batter and it will not work out if you send him below No. 4. You might not have a place till No. 4 as you have Kohli and Maxwell, and you are trying to bat Maxwell up the order," he said.
Aakash Chopra further suggested Jason Holder can be an ideal candidate to captain RCB in the IPL as he will play all the matches and knows how to run a team.
"They can either think about Maxwell or let me just throw a name here - Jason Holder. He is an unassuming character, does not impose himself, he is absolutely perfect for a franchise like RCB. He will play all the matches, he knows how to run a team and he will never take the centre stage,” he said.

Apart from his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra also suggested Jason Holder’s name for RCB skipper in a Tweet, saying that all-rounder knows how to handle Alpha Males in the side.
"If Maxwell isn’t handed over the #RCB captaincy, how’s Jason Holder as a captaincy candidate? They’re always in need of an all-rounder…understated…knows how to handle Alpha Males in the side. Thoughts?” Aakash Chopra Tweeted.
Notably, Jason Holder has captained West Indies in all three formats of the game. The all-rounder is in the red hot form with the ball in the ongoing T20I series against England. He took 4/7 in the first T20I and then returned with the figures of 2/25 in the second game.
