Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Friday (October 8).

Opting to bat first, the defending champions piled up a massive 235/9 in their allotted 20 overs on the back of breathtaking half-centuries from Ishan Kishan (84 off 32 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (82 off 40 balls).

All the SRH bowlers were taken to cleaners. All-rounder Jason Holder also conceded 52 runs in his four overs but he returned with four wickets to his name.

In reply, Sunrisers could only manage 193/8 in their stipulated 20 overs to lose the game by 42 runs. Apart from stand-in skipper Manish Pandey (69* off 41 balls), no other batter touched the 40-run mark.

For MI, Jimmy Neeshan (2-28), Jasprit Bumrah (2-39), and Nathan Coulter-Nile (2-40) claimed two wickets each while Trent Boult (1-30) and Piyush Chawla (1-38) chipped in with wicket apiece.

The result of the match didn’t make any difference to the IPL 2021 playoffs scenario. While SRH were already out of the playoffs race, MI needed to win the last game with an improbable margin of 170 odd runs.

Brief Scores:

Mumbai Indians – 235/9 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan 84; Suryakumar Yadav 82; Jason Holder 4-52) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad – 193/8 in 20 overs (Manish Pandey 69* Jimmy Neeshan 2-28) by 42 runs
