DC beat CSK by 3 wickets on Monday in Dubai.
Chasing 137, Shikhar Dhawan (39) and Shimron Hetmyer, who smashed 28* runs off 18 balls, helped Delhi Capitals (DC) register a thrilling three-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday to displace CSK and go on top of the points table in the ongoing IPL 2021.
DC has now 20 points from 13 matches and is at the top of the IPL 14 points table while CSK slipped to the second spot with 18 points, though both teams have reached the playoffs alongside Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Pant said the win over CSK has ensured DC would finish at the top two.
Pant said during the post-match presentation: “We got what we needed from him and in the Hetty (Hetmyer) finished it off for us. Big win, because of this we can be absolutely sure that we can finish in the top two. So it's a great win for us.”
On R Ashwin's promotion to number 6 against CSK, the DC skipper said: “We were just trying to keep the right-left combination.”
Speaking about the tough game, the wicketkeeper said: “With the bat, Prithvi Shaw got us to a good start. We were always in the chase as it was a low total, in the end, we got over the line.”
Pant celebrated his birthday on October 4 but denied to say DC’s win over CSK a birthday present.
He signed off by saying, “Not a birthday present, was a tough match, we made it tough for ourselves. In the end, if we win everything is fine. In the powerplay, they came hard and got away. After that, we bowled some good overs. In the end, they got away with some extra runs.”
