Devdutt Padikkal found himself being lucky in the 48th match of the IPL 2021 between his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) match in Sharjah of the ongoing IPL 2021, as the third umpire ruled him not out in controversial circumstances.

The incident happened on the 3rd ball of the 8th over bowled by Ravi Bishnoi to Devdutt Padikkal. The left-handed opener tried to reverse sweep a wide ball from Bishnoi and keeper KL Rahul grabbed a decent catch and both PBKS players celebrated as they were convinced Padikkal had gloved it.

The on-field umpire didn’t move, so KL Rahul went for the DRS review and the replays which used ultraedge showed some spike when the ball passed the gloves of the batter. However, despite repeated replays and spike being consistent from all angles, third umpire K Srinivasan gave it not out.

This surprised everyone not only on the field as KL Rahul had a discussion with on-field umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan but also the commentators, who were baffled at the decision. The spike was tiny when the ball was near the glove, but the spike was definitely there. PBKS ended up losing the review as well.

Not only the cricket fraternity on Twitter were agitated at this inane decision, but many cricket fans also criticized the subpar officiating from the third umpire.
