Mayank also opened up about his opening partnership with KL Rahul.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) senior bowler Mohammad Shami has opened up about his bowling tricks in the different grounds in the UAE and how he tries to keep junior players in the loop in the ongoing IPL 2021 after PBKS’ 5-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
On Friday, October 1, Punjab Kings (PBKS) put up a clinical performance with both bat and ball to crush Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets in Dubai and jump to the fifth spot in the IPL 14 points table.
For PBKS, Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi snared 3 and 2 wickets respectively to restrict KKR to 165/7 with Venkatesh Iyer (67 runs off just 49 balls) was again the star performer for Kolkata in Dubai.
Chasing the total, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal played knocks of 67 and 40 respectively to take PBKS over the line in the final over with three balls to spare on Friday.

After the game speaking to his teammate Agarwal, Shami, who returned with 1/23 in 4 overs, said he tries to ensure that he does not bowl many half-volleys at the backend of the innings.
Shami told Mayank in a video shared by IPL on Twitter: “I keep it simple. When we play at different grounds, we know one boundary is smaller and the other is longer so as a senior player, I like to keep junior players in the loop as well. You can bowl a full toss at the death, but you shouldn't bowl a half-volley. The mind is clear and I like to mix it up and play smartly.”
The pacer added, “In T20 if you believe in bluffing in the batsmen but you need to have a strong will to do that. As a senior, I never show that there is any difference between me and the other bowlers. I tell Arshdeep Singh to keep a clean mind.”
Meanwhile, Mayank said on his role as a PBKS opener, “As an opening batter, I am looking to put pressure on the opposition, in the powerplay, I am looking to take calculated risks.”
He signed off by saying, “If we are chasing 160 odd, and if we are able to score 50-55 in the first six, it makes it easy. KL Rahul and I share a good understanding.”
Noteworthy, PBKS will next take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday, October 3 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the ongoing IPL 2021.
