The 34th match of the IPL 2021 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) proved to be a kind of one-sided affair as KKR hammered MI badly to register a 7-wicket win and moved to the 4th spot, while MI slipped to 6th spot.

KKR captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Rohit Sharma (33) and Quinton de Kock (55) added 78 runs for the 1st wicket as MI managed to put 155/6 in 20 overs. The KKR spinners put a brake to scoring in middle overs as only Pollard in the middle order went past 20 runs. Lockie Ferguson and Prasidh Krishna picked two wickets each, while Sunil Narine got one.

KKR has been showing a new and fresh approach to chasing targets and go after the total in slam-bang style.  Trent Boult and Adam Milne both went for 15 runs each in their first overs respectively but Jasprit Bumrah removed Shubman Gill for 13 runs.

But then Venkatesh Iyer (53 in 30 balls) hit 4 fours and 3 sixes in his knock, adding 88 runs for the second wicket with Rahul Tripathi and took the game away from MI completely.

Tripathi continued and finished the job with 74* in 42 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes to his name and KKR won the match by 7 wickets with 29 balls in hand. Bumrah picked 3/43 in his 4 overs.

The cricket fraternity was in awe of this new approach taken by KKR and lauded their batsmen for taking this positive initiative.
