COVID-19 pandemic has started to cause disruptions in the ongoing IPL.
A day after positive cases emerged from the KKR and CSK camps, it has come to light that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Amit Mishra have also returned COVID-19 positive.
Informing about Saha’s status, veteran journalist Boria Majumdar tweeted: “Wriddhi was in isolation for last 5 days tell me Sunrisers sources. Wasn’t in contact. Time for 6-7 day break and hard quarantine and strict protocols. Then reset. Only way. There are other cases also. So you have to put all in quarantine to eliminate risk.”
On the other hand, senior cricket correspondent Vikrant Gupta provided update on Mishra, before adding that tonight’s match between SRH and Mumbai Indians (MI) can’t go ahead with Saha being diagnosed positive for the deadly virus.
Notably, two players at Kolkata Knight Riders, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday (May 3), leading to IPL rescheduling the match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Coming to Chennai Super Kings, a couple of positive cases were also reported in the contingent, including bowling coach L Balaji. As a result, the MS Dhoni-led side has gone into a week-long quarantine and their match against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (May 5) is unlikely to take place as well.
With too many cases being reported inside the bio-bubble, the cash-rich tournament got reportedly suspended while the BCCI is yet to make an offical statement.
