The ongoing IPL 2021 tournament hit a huge roadblock after multiple COVID-19 positive cases erupted in multiple franchises and have led to the suspension of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League indefnitely.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 after several players and support staff tested positive for COVID-19.

The decision comes close on the heels of Monday's IPL 2021 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad being rescheduled after the Knight Riders' spinner Varun Chakravarthy and seam bowler Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19.

Also Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) keeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha also tested positive for COVID-19.

"Yes, Wriddhiman Saha has tested positive for the coronavirus. Our entire team is now under isolation and there are no other positive reports, rest are all negative," the member of the team management said.

BCCI's vice-president Rajiv Shukla confirmed the developments to ANI and was quoted, “IPL has been suspended, we will see whether we can reschedule it, it is not canceled. It is just suspended for now.

After this, L Balaji the CSK bowling coach tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was two of the players from different franchises testing positive for the virus.
