David Warner has made 193 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 110 in IPL 2021.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) director of cricket operations Tom Moody said that David Warner was shocked and disappointed to lose the SRH captaincy to Kane Williamson after the team management decided to give the Australian a break.
And Moody also confirmed that Warner will not be playing in the XI against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday and said the fellow Australian has come to terms with the decision.
IPL 2021: Nasser Hussain calls Warner 'Mr. Sunrisers'; says his removal as captain a 'big decision'
On Saturday, Warner was stripped of the captaincy, and the team management had indicated that a new overseas combination will be played in Sunday’s game against RR.
“Firstly it means he’s not going to be playing this game. We had discussions and decided that two (overseas) batsmen, one all-rounder, and Rashid Khan were the best way to go about it,” Moody told Star Sports.
He has come to terms with the logic behind what we want to achieve from a franchise’s perspective. He has rallied around the team and more importantly, the team has rallied around him,” Moody added.
IPL 2021: Simon Doull suggests the reason behind David Warner's sacking as SRH captain
David Warner not only struggled as captain as SRH won only one match out of 6 played and lost 5, but he couldn’t get on as a batsman as well, making 193 runs at a strike rate of 110 with 2 half-centuries.
This included a painful-looking 57 off 55 balls against CSK.
There had seemingly been unrest in the SRH camp through IPL 2021. After Manish Pandey was dropped after four games, Warner came out in the open and said it was not his decision, passing the responsibility to the franchise’s selectors. He had also called the decision ‘harsh’.
